Log time with timers, quick log, or the timesheet
Three ways to log time in Verbial: a live timer, a plain-English quick log, or the weekly timesheet grid.
Every entry ends up in the same place, your weekly timesheet, whichever way you log it. This article shows the three methods and when each fits.
Start a timer
- Go to My work, then Dashboard.
- In the Now tracking card, pick the project and task.
- Click Start. Only one timer runs at a time; starting another stops and saves the first.
- Click Stop when done. Add a note if prompted. The entry saves with the elapsed time.
Quick log in plain English
- On the dashboard, find the Quick log box.
- Type what you did the way you would tell a coworker: "2h Acme, drafted Q2 strategy doc" or "45m social scheduling for Nova".
- Press Enter. Verbial reads the duration (2h, 45m, 1.5h, 90 minutes), matches the project name or code against projects you are assigned to, and keeps the rest as the note.
- If the project match is uncertain, the box shows its best guess. Confirm or pick another before it submits.
The timesheet grid
- Go to My work, then Timesheet.
- Click an empty cell on the day you want.
- Pick the project, task, and duration, add a note, and save.
Edit or delete an entry
Click any entry on the timesheet or in Time logs to change the duration, project, task, or note, or to delete it. Deletion is permanent. Entries in an approved week or a locked period cannot be changed until unlocked.
What to check
- Rounding, minimum and maximum entry length, future-dated entries, and the auto-stop limit are set by an admin under Settings, then Time tracking. See Configure time tracking rules and locks.
- Your dashboard's pacing card counts billable entries only against your weekly target.
- Missing days and unsubmitted weeks appear as action items on the dashboard.
Questions
Is a note required?
Yes, on every entry, if your workspace has Require notes on. The form and quick log refuse to save without one.
What if I forget to stop the timer?
A timer left running past the workspace limit (8 hours by default) stops itself and saves a capped entry with a notification. Edit the duration down afterwards.
Can I edit an approved entry?
No. Approved and locked entries are frozen. Ask your manager to reopen the week, or an admin to remove the period lock.
